On Friday, May 17 at 6 PM the Friday Night Naturalist topic will be “Alligators: Their Health and Our Environment” presented by Russell Lowers, a wildlife biologist with integrated Mission Support Services at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Lowers has been studying KSC’s alligator population since 2006 and KSC is home to a significant amount of the long-lived species.
By looking at the habits, reproduction and overall health of the alligator, the study results provide insight into environmental conditions. Lowers will present information on the trends that have been documented, including the impact of climate change on alligator hatchlings since their sex is determined by temperature.
The Trout Lake Nature Center is located at 520 East CR 44, Eustis. Friday Night Naturalist is held monthly on the third Friday. These programs are free to attend but a $5 donation is suggested to support this independent non-profit’s future programs.
