Posted on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 1:30 am

The City of Tavares Recreation Department is introducing two wonderful opportunities for our senior community to gather for fun and fellowship this season.
Looking for an afternoon of fun and frolic? Want to meet new people or just hang out with your friends? Check out the Tavares Senior Shakedown, the newest gathering place to cut a rug, spin your gal, or spend time with your beau.
Located at the Tavares Civic Center, the Senior Shakedown takes place monthly on Mondays starting in November from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. It’s an afternoon social that includes dancing, karaoke, games and friendly competition. Dance to the old tunes, or learn the newest steps. Croon like Dean Martin, or try out “Moves like Jagger. It’s an afternoon that is guaranteed to put the spring back into your step and a smile on your face.
Specific dates are as follows: November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 5, April 9 and May 7. Each month, we will celebrate the specific season or holiday! You will not want to miss our “Senior Shakedown – Christmas Social” held in December, which is back by popular demand!
If board games, dice rolling and trivial pursuit are more your style, you sound like the perfect fit to attend our weekly afternoons of fellowship at the Tavares Young at Heart Program. Aimed at gathering seniors, retirees or just those who like to have fun and enjoy social interaction, you can count on a good time with lots of games, goodies and giggles!
The Young at Heart Program is held every Tuesday beginning October 10th and running through May 1st at the Tavares Civic Center from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
Both of these popular programs are held at the Tavares Civic Center, 100 E. Caroline Street in Tavares, located behind the Tavares Public Library. Programs are open to the public free of charge and will have light refreshments.
