Invasive plants and animals are a fact of life in Florida, as non-native species continue to arrive and flourish. What do they look like? Why are they a problem? What can you do to control them? “Know Your Invasives” is the next topic for Friday Night Naturalist at the Trout Lake Nature Center.
On Friday, September 20 at 6 PM, learn from the experts about what is being done locally to meet the invasive threats (both plant and animal) to our natural systems. This program will feature samples of plants as well as animal photos or videos to help you learn to identify invasives or evidence of their damage.
If you think you may have an invasive plant, gather a small sample and bring it to the program in a sealed bag for identification and information on how to treat it. Sealed bags are required to limit the spread of any invasive via spores. In addition, information on the Clean, Play, Go program and the IveGot1.org will be given to help you understand how you can help make a difference whenever you visit a natural area or find an invasive.
The Trout Lake Nature Center is located at 520 East CR 44, Eustis. Friday Night Naturalist programs are held monthly on the third Friday. These programs are free to attend but a $5 donation is suggested to support this independent non-profit’s future programs.
