May 4 is International Firefighters’ Day. It is a time where the world recognizes and honors the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities are safe. It’s also a day in which current and past firefighters are thanked for their service.
On April 24, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved a proclamation proclaiming May 4 as International Firefighter Appreciation Day throughout Lake County. County staff is wearing ribbons to show gratitude to firefighters for their service. The ribbons are symbolic, with red for fire and blue for water. These colors also are internationally recognized as representing emergency service.
