The Ocklawaha Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, welcomed new member Mrs. Betty Vasquez into the chapter last month.
“I wasn’t even thinking about DAR, but my son got involved with genealogy,” said Mrs. Vasquez. “He was the one who discovered our Patriot ancestor.” Her Patriot ancestor, Rev. Samuel Templeman, was the adjutant to John Washington, brother of General George Washington. “Our family is sort of the Forest Gumps of America,” said Mrs. Vasquez. “Some of our ancestors participated in historical events alongside major historical figures. It makes for a very interesting family history.”
