Members of the Ocklawaha Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, dedicated a Saturday in December to sending books, CDs and DVDs on behalf of Operation Paperback. This was the third shipment in 2018 and an additional 700 items were sent to VA hospitals, military families and deployed military personnel.
Book drives held at Center State Bank in Mt. Dora resulted in donations of thousands of Books, CDs and DVDs. Further contributions from individuals, the Rotary Club of Lake County and Hillcrest Insurance Company helped pay for shipping.
“Shipments of this kind are only possible due to the generosity of the community and its volunteers,” said Frankie Goebel.
Co-chair Jenna Creagle said, “It felt really nice to get a shipment out in time to reach our military by Christmas. It’s the least we can do for them with all the sacrifices they make.”
Operation Paperback is only one of many service projects embraced by chapter members. For more information on Operation Paperback or the Daughters of the American Revolution, please contact June Perry at spooker15@aol.com. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, January 12th.
