The Lake-Sumter Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution SAR) held their last meeting before their summer break in Fruitland Park, FL. Highpoints of the meeting were the induction of father and son, Orin and Nicholas Owen, into the SAR and a presentation to members and guests by Compatriot Tom Wilcox on the Battle of Brooklyn, the Lost Battle that Won the War. The Owens’ were inducted into the SAR based upon their proven lineage to Alexander Patterson, who fought and was wounded in the battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775.
The next Chapter meeting will be held on October 7, 2017 at American Legion John Gella Memorial Post 216, 194 W. Fountain St, Fruitland Park, FL. All meetings are open to anyone who has an interest in history, particularly the Revolutionary War, or a desire to learn more about the Sons of the American Revolution.
