The Granville Beville 2234, Bushnell United Daughters of the Confederacy(R) donated towels, hand towels and washcloths to the Tampa Crossroads for the homeless female veterans shelter. President Carol Tomlinson and Recorder of Military Service Awards, Peggy Sloan took the items down on Thursday, January 27, 2012.
The Tampa Crossroads mission is to help women who served in the military. Female veterans are often "silent" victims of war trauma and for female veterans who find themselves on the streets and have problems of locating adequate shelter is often compounded by fear of sexual abuse and violence. Only a handful of veterans' services around the US have programs designed for women, despite the fact that separate facilities for homeless female vet, is crucial for their recovery. Their primary goal is to assist the clients in regaining control of their lives and to become an independent members of the community and gain control of their lives. For more information on help or helping the homeless female veterans call (813) 248-VETS (8387) Program Manager Robyn Larson or E-mail - Rlarson @tampacrossroads.com or visit http://TampaCrossroads.com
