Coming soon to every corner in downtown Tavares, scarecrows, large and small, funny and uniquely dressed will greet you. Take a stroll and stop for selfies along the way. This delightful event promises to be so much fun for the whole family.
The Friends of the Tavares Library are hosting our first annual fund-raising scarecrow contest. The winners will be announced at the BOO Festival held October 26 from 6-9pm at Wooton Park, in downtown Tavares. Plan on bringing the whole family to enjoy the many festivities!
The contest is open to all those in Tavares, including businesses, schools, government, social and service clubs, scouts, and private residents. For those who want to participate but have no space, you are invited to display your scarecrow at the Tavares Public Library with a reserved spot. Call for details (352) 742-6204. Join the fun and submit an application. Deadline is Oct 22, for judging; you could win.
Applications are available at the library circulation desk and on the Friends of Tavares Library Facebook page. Ideas for materials to use is also on the Facebook page. If you want to support the library but are unable to make a scarecrow, you can mail your tax deductible donation to Friends Tavares Library, 314 N. New Hampshire Ave., Tavares, FL 32778.
The Friends of the Tavares Library is a 501c3 group of volunteers who raise money for programming and needs of the library that are not covered in the annual budget. The $10 application fee goes directly into funds available for programming or unforeseen needs. In addition to children’s programming, the Friends have offered adult programs as well, such as GED tutoring, dynamic cover letter and resume writing, and several other helpful classes.
