The Animal League, a 501 c(3) Non-Profit and no-kill rescue located in Groveland has been committed to helping the pets and the people of Central Florida since 1988. From the very start, our mission has been this: spay, neuter, adopt. Last year, on average, 100 homeless pets a month found loving, forever homes. This past September, in order to continue our mission, we opened The Animal League Wellness Center, located in Leesburg next to the Via Port Mall.
We’ve always been committed to helping pets find homes. With the opening of The Animal League Wellness Center, we are able to ensure quality and affordable care to pets across Central Florida including spay/neuter surgeries, general wellness exams, vaccines and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives.
The Animal League’s non-profit status makes us keenly aware of the need for affordable vet care. The Animal League Wellness Center serves not only Animal League pets, but pets from across Central Florida. By so doing, we are better able to address issues in our community such as pet overpopulation, affordable pet care and the spaying and neutering of community cats.
We believe that no pet should be denied basic healthcare and vetting because an owner cannot afford veterinary bills. We support pet parents in our community just as much as we support the animals. The Animal League Wellness Center allows us to expand our community outreach programs, such as the Neighborhood Pet Program, which focuses on keeping pets happy and healthy in targeted, underserved neighborhoods throughout Lake County.
“The Animal League Wellness Center will continue our commitment to our mission of enhancing the lives of animals and people in our community,” says Executive Director Doreen Barker. “Our professional, yet compassionate approach to pet care reflects the care philosophy we have had over the last 28 years as an organization: treat each pet like a member of your own family.”
Our philosophy, coupled with the experience and compassion of our staff, makes for a truly unique and enjoyable experience. Through our doors, guests will find a warm, inviting and comfortable environment for themselves and their pets. The large waiting room and the spacious exams rooms create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Hand painted dog and cat portraits, donated by long-time Animal League supporter and artist, Kathie Camara, adorn the walls throughout the clinic.
