Artisans on Fifth Summer Fundraiser
Monday, July 12, 2010
Artisans on fifth, a non-profit artists' cooperative in downtown Mount Dora, has kicked off its summer special events with a raffle to raise funds for its artist development and community outreach programs. The raffle donation is a framed print by noted Florida photographer Clyde Butcher, whose works will be featured in the adjoining gallery of the Mount Dora Center for the Arts (MDCA) July 12 - August 3rd. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and may be purchased in the Artisans gallery shop. The drawing will take place on August 15th. The winner need not be present to win.
Butcher, who is known as the "Ansel Adams" of Florida photography, has had a very well received show at the Orlando Museum of Art during the past few months. His large format, black-and-white photography featuring dramatic skies, windswept beaches, and the flora and fauna of the Big Cypress Swamp area, seem to record every detail of nature in the scene. Enhancing the drama of the subject matter is the presentation for which Butcher is known: the oversized gallery prints.
Artisans on fifth also features the Florida-themed art of many of its 40 Central Florida artist-members, in a range of media, including painting, sculpture, metal, wood, glass and fiber. It is affiliated with the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, and is open to the public seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Artisans is located at 134 E. Fifth Avenue in downtown Mount Dora, (352)383-0880, ext. 107.
