Eustis Market Day Event

Monday, July 12, 2010

July 3rd "Market Day" was an amazing day. The unveiling ceremony for our long awaited museum sign took place at 10 a.m. There were about a dozen vendors set up and Steve Hutsenpiller Productions provided the musical entertainment as Jim Gillies, our terrific MC, announced the events and the winners of the raffle.

Prizes were contributed by the community for Mornas' Benefit. Shannon Cook donated her personal time to poll the merchants for prizes and the selling of tickets for the raffles as well as sales of the 50/50 drawing, tickets.

Deputy Mornas Colston and family were present to greet well wishers and friends as he is still recuperating from a serious illness. The Eustis Firemen displayed one of their units as Mornas' children and others tried on firemen's gear. EFD's participation was greatly appreciated by all. Off duty sheriff personnel dropped by and the Lake County Sheriff Department's motorcycle unit arrived in full dress uniform.

The grill master smoked hot dogs and hamburgers for the event. Deputy Colston was extremely pleased as he said, "it isn't about the money but the overwhelming greetings of friends, family and well wishers that blessed this day". The Grill master's event profited around $200 for the museum.

Oscar Morris has teamed up with "Market Day" vendor chairman, Bobby Ryan to cover the summer Market Days. Oscar feels the publicity of the Museum's Market Day should continue on first Saturday because the public will expect it take place unless it is inclement weather. Summer special space rental is just $10.

Eustis will have Main Street's First Friday followed by the Museum's First Saturday. A sincere appreciation goes to Steve Hutsenpiller as he provides the music and entertainment for the museum benefits, and does such a wonderful job. Also to Jim Gillies as he does such a great job "MC-ing" our event.

The Eustis Historical Museum and Preservation Society is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization that relies on memberships, grants, donations, fundraisers and assistance from the City of Eustis to maintain the museum and local historical artifacts for future generations.
