Irregular Heart Beat Can Increase With Age

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a disorder found in about 2.2 million Americans. During AF, the heart's two small upper chambers (the atria) quiver instead of beating effectively. Blood isn't pumped completely out of them, so it may pool and clot. If a piece of a blood clot in the atria leaves the heart and becomes lodged in an artery in the brain, a stroke results.

The likelihood of developing AF increases with age. If you have AF or have concerns of developing AF, take advantage of a free medical lecture on September 9, 12:00pm. Miguel Bryce, MD, FACC, will present "Understanding Atrial Fibrilation", a complete overview of its causes, treatments and symptoms.

Held at Florida Hospital Waterman Garden Conference Center. Cafe lunch vouchers offered up to start of program for pre-registered guests. RSVP is required by calling 352.253.3388 or emailing robert.lee2@ahss.org.
