Lake County Robotics Holds Summer Camp

Lake County’s Robotics Team 1557, also known as 12 Volt Bolt, is holding a summer camp for students who are going into the 7th - 10th grades. The students will be learning valuable information about engineering, design, computer programming, and other skills. The kids will be building robots, develop team skills, and just generally having fun! The camp will be help from July 19-23 at Christian Home and Bible School in Mount Dora. The robotics program in Lake County began in 2004 and has grown to include all high schools in the Golden Triangle area and South Lake. The team consists of students, parents, community mentors, and teachers. Financial support is raised by each team. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to pursue careers in science, math, engineering, and technology. There is over $12.8 million in scholarship money available to high school seniors involved in the program. In 2009, Team 1557 won the Regional Chairman’s Award and a trip to the International Championships in Atlanta. This past season, 12 Volt Bolt placed second in the Florida Regional and also won a Judges’ Award for Excellence in Design. Team 1557 invites anyone who is interested in the program to join them at their meetings which are held every Thursday from 6-8 at 211 N. Grove St., Eustis, FL 32726.
