The Dixie Drive-In was the most popular hangout for high school students from Eustis, Mount Dora, Tavares and Umatilla throughout the 60s. Cruising the Dixie was a rite of passage for area teenagers where they could show off their cars and gather with their friends. The Dixie provided car hops for outside service and there was ample seating inside. The juke box played music of the era non-stop.

The Dixie Drive-In was located at the intersection of Highway 19A and old Highway 441 in Mount Dora. The Dixie was started in 1952 by the Fischer family of Eustis. Fresh limeade and the famous pork tenderloin sandwich were introduced by the Fishers. The Jackson family bought the Dixie in 1957, keeping the original menu and introduced Mr. Jackson's steak burger. Mr. Jackson purchased a walk-in freezer and ground his own steak daily. The Jacksons closed the Dixie in 1971.
