CW2 Cierra Peterson presented a local women's group with a flag that had been flown in Afganistan

The Singers of Harmony Community Church presented a patriotic musical in celebration of Independence Day. The musical "Truth Is Marching On" featured new as well as familiar songs. As a part of the celebration a flag was given to the church by the women's group. This flag was flown on an army helicopter in Afghanistan piloted by CW2 Cierra Peterson.

The women became acquainted with Peterson through Operation Shoebox. They developed a bond with her through e-mail correspondence and supported her with care packages of personal items and things to give the Afghan children.

In appreciation Peterson sent the group a US flag and a certificate. The text of the certificate stated: This flag flew a combat mission on 19 March, 2010 in an OH-58 D Kiowa warrior helicopter, in the face of the enemy. This flag bears witness to the capture, detention and interrogation of terrorists forces threatening the freedom of the United States of America and the world. This flag was flown in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom

Signed: Air Mission Commander: Cpt. Billy Cassidy
Pilot: CW2 Cierra Peterson

On behalf of the Women in Harmony, Suzanne Piercy presented the flag to Pastor Richard Root who conducted a flag dedication ceremony in which the congregation participated. The church meets in the conference room at the Best Western Inn in Tavares.
