Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra Presents "Gypsy Serenade"

Friday, January 27, 2012

Under the direction of charismatic conductor Michael J. Garasi, the sixty professional musicians that comprise the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra will carry their audience on a romantic journey to nineteenth-century Europe by playing music that has its roots in Russia, Hungary and Rumania. The orchestra will play robust marches, melodic ethnic dances and folk songs of the rural peasants, and will highlight the haunting romantic rhapsodies of the European gypsies in a powerful and sensitive concert.

Brahms', Dvorak's, Berlioz', Sarasate's and Dinicu's music portray the hearty regional music of everyday people's celebrations in Rumanian and Slavonic dances and marches. Exotic and soulful Hungarian, Rumanian and Russian gypsy rhapsodies by Liszt, Enesco and Dragon will linger in memory after the music itself fades.

Concert Master virtuoso violinist, Konstantin Dimitrov, will perform as soloist in many of the gypsy pieces and Rumanian clarinetist, Ciprian Stancioi who travels from London to perform with the FLSO, will enrich the concert with his talent and musical heritage.

This concert replaces the scheduled Tribute to Guy Saint-Clair which has been rescheduled to the Symphony's next season.

On Thursday, Feb. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, there will be a "Concert Prelude" talk at the W. T. Bland Library in Mount Dora. This presentation will increase concert-goers' enjoyment by highlighting the composers, their lives and music, focusing specifically on the music to be heard at the concerts on February 16th and 17th.

The Mount Dora concert is on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Highland Street in Mount Dora. The South Lake concert will be held Friday February 17, 2012 at the South Lake High School, 15600 Silver Eagle Rd. in Groveland. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $42 in advance and $45 at the door. Students are $15. Group tickets are also available. Advance tickets can be purchased by sending a check to FLSO, 2034 Bayside Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757.
