Maintaining Safety & Hygiene in the Home as You Age
Friday, January 13, 2012
The aging process increases the potential for injury. The elderly are at greater risk, for many reasons. The process of aging brings about physical changes that contribute to an increased potential for accidents. The skin is a protective barrier, with aging it becomes thinner and looses elasticity. There is a loss of fat and muscle mass. The bones loose minerals, which makes them brittle and more prone to sustaining a fracture. Eyesight and hearing ability are decreased. Our coordination and sense of balance are decreased.
These are significant changes that affect an individual's ability to manage safely in the home. To learn more information on protecting yourself and or a loved one, register to attend 'Maintaining Safety & Hygiene in the Home" presented by Lori Ford, Registered Nurse and Leslie Sarmiento, Community Liaison on Thursday January 19, 4:00pm at Florida Hospital Waterman Team Room 2 (medical office building/3rd floor). Light snacks provided and RSVP is required by calling 352-253-3388 or emailing cara.anderson@ahss.org
