Applications Available for Scott A. Strong Memorial Scholarship

Friday, January 27, 2012

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Scott A. Strong Memorial Scholarship.

The Scott A. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund will be awarding a $2,000 scholarship to a 2012 graduating student from a Lake County public high school and $500 and $1,000 scholarships for runners up. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA and have a track record of being involved in their community. The scholarship can be used for books, fees or tuition at universities, community colleges or technical schools.

The Scott A. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 with an initial donation of $25,000. Its mission is to help qualifying Lake County high school seniors realize their ambition to attend a university, community college or trade school.

Partners in this program include the Educational Foundation of Lake County, Electric Services, Inc., Welbro Building and Reunion Bank, which acts as the trustee for all scholarship funds. All organizations have offered to waive all fees for the life of the fund so that 100 percent can be used for scholarships.

Last year, the Scott Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee selected 12 Lake County 2011 graduates as recipients of the scholarship and a total of $10,500 was awarded. The winners were selected from 78 applicants based on individual commitment to the community, future plans and personal interviews.

The deadline to submit applications is March 5, 2012. Applications can be submitted to the Educational Foundation Office, located at 910 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg, FL 34748.
