Free Vessel Inspection By Harris Chain Sail & Power Squadron

Friday, August 12, 2011

According to P/C Joe Murray. AP, Vessel Inspector Chairman, "when you live in a place named Lake County, boating safety is something that should come naturally". However, human nature being what it is, we often lose track of how long it's been since we inspected or replaced our safety equipment.

Safety checks include evaluating registration and vessel type/size specific-equipment according to state and U.S. Coast Guard standards.

Working on a voluntary basis, our vessel inspectors approach boaters to offer free inspections to make sure their watercraft are safe. They ensure that certain necessary equipment is aboard, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, sound and visual distress signals.

Our inspections make people aware of how safe and complete their boat's equipment actually is. If the boat passes the inspection, they are given an annual sticker to place on their vessel to show that it meets state and U.S. Coast Guard standards.

Boat inspections take place monthly at the boat ramp, Venetian Gardens in Leesburg and the Buzzard Beach in Tavares. To find these locations, and obtain additional information please visit our web page:
