Tangerine Community Church

Friday, October 14, 2011

The Tangerine Community Church is celebrating our 125th year of ministry to the community. Worship services were started in 1886 by traveling pastors who came from miles away by horseback. Our little white clapboard church was erected on property donated by R.J. White in 1888. We have maintained our traditional ministry over the last 125 years and we are known as "The Little Church with a Big Heart."

Under the direction of co-pastors John and Harriet Davis, our anniversary year has been celebrated with a Founder's Day Service, Cross Dedication in the Memorial Garden, an Ice Cream Social, the burial of a time capsule and a pet blessing in the park.

As our 125th anniversary enters the final quarter of the year, a Southern Gospel Music Festival is scheduled for Sunday, October 30th in the Tangerine Park (behind the church). The headliner will be The Pickerings, a southern gospel family group that has delighted thousands of Christian audiences since 1944. Of course, none of the original Pickerings are still singing but the talent has been handed down from grandfather to sons and daughter. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. The festival is free to all. Food and drink will be available, bring a chair, a blanket and a friend. The park is located behind the church at 7141 Wright Avenue in Tangerine, just south of Mount Dora off of Hwy 441.
