Faith Lutheran Celebrates Reformation Day
Thursday, November 3, 2011
While most schools celebrate Halloween, Faith Lutheran School in Eustis celebrated Reformation Day. The day began with a special chapel service, where we sang the Reformation hymn, "A Mighty Fortress is our God" and had a special visit from Martin Luther himself, (also known as Reverend Dr. Oscar Gerken former pastor of Faith.) "Martin Luther" told us about his life as a Catholic monk. He told us that Luther never wanted to start a reformation, he was simply pointing out doctrine that didn't match with what was written in the Bible. October 31, 1517, he nailed 95 statements (theses) to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, in hopes that conversations regarding the statements would begin. Little did he know that this was the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
