You can make a difference in your community. TaxAide in Lake County is expanding its team of volunteers who assist young and older moderate income taxpayers who might otherwise miss out on tax credits and deductions they have earned. This rewarding and challenging service in Lake County will open new horizons as you work with fellow citizens in resolving the personal and sensitive matters of their Federal tax return. All work is strictly confidential. Come join us – make a difference!
Tax year 2019 marks the 30th year of free help in Lake County, where last year thousands of residents took advantage of TAXAIDE an IRS- AARP jointly funded service. Operating sites located in Leesburg, Mt. Dora, Hawthorne, Clermont, Fruitland Park, the Villages, and nearly 10,000 locations around the USA prepared returns for moderate income filers from teen agers to golden agers. AARP membership is not a requirement to take advantage of this free service provided by AARP in conjunction with the IRS. Volunteers must be computer literate since all returns are electronically filed.
Specific time, days of the week and locations will be published in early 2019. More information can be found at
Volunteers are now starting preparations for the new tax year which will include study, tax classes and testing in January to become certified to IRS standards. Volunteers are expected to work one day a week for the 10 week tax season which for most begins February 1 and ends April 15. Taxpayers retain sole responsibility for their returns. Certified volunteers are insured under the volunteer protection act of 1997 for work done within the scope of the program. Expense reimbursement and travel accident insurance for certified volunteers is provided by the AARP Foundation.
