Dating back to 12th or 13th century England, lawn bowling is one of the oldest outdoor sports played today. Some Historians even claim the Egyptians bowled over 5000 years ago. Her in Mount Dora we have bowled since 1928, and our club boasts one of the largest memberships in the country, averaging 300 strong.
The game of lawn bowls is played with an elliptical bowl, weighing about 3 to 3 ½ pounds, with four bowls to a set. Each bowl is shaped to travel a “curved” path, called the bias, toward the target, a small white, round ball called the jack. The bowl, or group of team bowls, closest to the back score the point(s). The game is similar to bocce or boules.
